World leaders welcome bin Laden’s death
WORLD leaders have welcomed the killing of Osama bin Laden, but many warn that the war against terror is far from over and that al-Qa’ida could strike back with renewed vigour.
“I think we can all agree this is a good day for America. Our country has kept its commitment to see that justice is done,” US President Barack Obama said, just hours after announcing US commandos had killed the world’s most wanted man.
His predecessor George W Bush hailed the “momentous” achievement, saying it was a “great victory,” nearly a decade after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
But in a sign of tensions to come, India lashed out at its arch-foe Pakistan, saying the fact that the decade-old manhunt ended at a large villa north of Islamabad was further evidence that militants find “sanctuary” in the nuclear-armed country.
