Terrific video.

Excellent speech.

We could trade 50 stockbrokers for a single plumber, and we'd be getting the better end of the deal.

Rowe is a great speaker to talk about this kind of stuff. He's done tons of work in all manner of industry and sees just how dangerous and tough so many different trades are.

And he's got one of the best voices on TV anywhere.

And there's something else - the education system is skewed not towards providing trades type jobs, but instead a service industry that is disconnected from the base skilled labor needed to make everything else possible.

I'm not sure a PR campaign would do much, It;s a cultural thing. Plumbers, carpenters, etc are not respected in our society no matter how necessary they are. This also ties into the immigration debate because we need to import laborers who will actually these jobs that most natural born Americans feel is beneath them.

We glorify the amount of money made far above how it was made. It's a problem with the strict adherence to market capitalism that's been pushed for so long.

Agreed. All to often to get the big dollars one must ignore their own conscience. Big salaries buy off our inner wisdom of what's right. Few of us can hit it really big time wealthy and keep our hearts & souls intact.

Semi-related video I watched last night on the back of this one:

Dirty Jobs' Mike Rowe on Lamb Castration, PETA, and American Labor

If you have the twenty minutes to spare, it's worth the watch.
