This is one of the reasons why the Catholic church is losing a lot of their younger members.

Honestly, what do people expect from the Catholic church? It was a year or so ago they denied same-sex benefits to their own workers in DC. They aren’t pro gay, or even pro birth control, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Either tell the church to fuck off and don’t participate in their sanctioned events or services, or don’t expect them to behave differently than they always have.

Ugh, read some of the comments on that linked article, they’re disgusting.

Also another reason many Catholic schools are closing.

Catholic schools are an arm of the Catholic church.

Suppose you can afford it; if you can’t, all further discussion is moot. Suppose the local public schools are falling short. Maybe they don’t keep order or instill good work habits. Maybe they just don’t push the kids. So you’d have a reason to consider Catholic school, cost notwithstanding.

You’d obviously want to look at the particulars. But generically,
if you want your children to get a strong education, particularly in the humanities, Catholic schools can be a good choice. If you want a good scientific education for them, the Catholic church is not drinking the KoolAid. Not the creationist koolaid, and not the CO2-is-harmless KoolAid. It will present the truth about what scientists know and conjecture, and how conjectures are solidified into theories by experimentation and calculation.

If you want the most modern and enlightened gay-friendly tone, that’s another story. The church makes no secrets of its positions. You look at your priorities, and you look at the priorities of the church and its schools, and you make a decision.
