Remarkably, the share of Baptist households making $40,000 or less is roughly the same as the share of Reform Jews making $100,000 or more.

I’ve always said, it’s the Baptist controlled entity that’s ruining this country! Why won’t people acknowledge this!!111!!! ELEVENTY!!

Some would say it was the protestant work ethic that made America strong. IMO, it is a different protestant ethic that made America strong, delayed gratification. That results in capital accumulation and sound investment strategies. We still work a lot, but we no longer have a society that values delayed gratification.

It doesn’t say anything about Mormons. Probably because we would try to claim our kids and our buckets of wheat as assets.

Mormons are shown on the chart.

What struck me was the education level of the various religions/denominations and how that is playing out in our country right now such as with some people trying to force creationism in our schools, the anti-science movement, etc.

A former evangelical employee of mine was poorer than he could have been because he gave Joel Osteen a regular 10% cut.

I was about to ask if reform Judaism required tithes because most Baptist and Protestant churches are really big on the whole 10% thing. Our pastor regularly reminds us “the lord loves a cheerful giver.”

Well, they are. In the larger scheme of things.

Yeah, I agree; you choose to make a self-righteous statement without thinking it through; that seems to be a great example of not delaying gratification to me.

Anyway, none of this is surprising and has been true for decades; American Protestants mostly come from the so-called “low-church” groups.

A relative of mine was giving 60-70 percent of her fixed income to the snake oil salesmen on the tv. Sad, really.

re: #8 Juice

How is it self-righteous? I’m not a protestant nor am I particularly adept at delaying gratification.
