Israelis See Netanyahu Trip as Diplomatic Failure - NY Times
“JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel returned from Washington on Wednesday to a nearly unanimous assessment among Israelis that despite his forceful defense of Israel’s security interests, hopes were dashed that his visit might advance peace negotiations with the Palestinians.”
No, Israelis do not see Netanyahu’s trip to the US as a diplomatic failure. Not unanimously, not a majority, probably not even a small minority among Jewish Israelis. No one, least of all Hamas, was expecting his visit to result in the restarting of peace negotiations. The Palestinians have made it clear that they prefer to avoid negotiations - in which they might actually have to give up something - for a direct appeal to the UN, which will be inclined to agree to a Palestinian state with no conditions attached.
All of this is widely known, except apparently at the NY Times, where the editor of this already rather negative piece gave it an even more dreadful and misleading title.
