GOP Rep. Walsh: Obama elected because he is a`black man who was articulate’
Pathological vernacular diarrhea:
“Why was he elected? Again, it comes back to who he was. He was black, he was historic. And there’s nothing racist about this. It is what it is. If he had been a dynamic, white, state senator elected to Congress he wouldn’t have gotten in the game this fast. This is what made him different. That, combined with the fact that your profession” — another friendly tap of the bumper sticker —”not you, but your profession, was just absolutely compliant. They made up their minds early that they were in love with him. They were in love with him because they thought he was a good liberal guy and they were in love with him because he pushed that magical button: a black man who was articulate, liberal, the whole white guilt, all of that.”
I’ve gotten to the point where stuff like this isn’t worth the energy of arguing with but here goes anyway - Sarah Palin got into the game faster than Barack Obama. She went from a moderately known Alaska governor to a vice presidential candidate within days. Obama even had several years in which he was a nationally known figure before running for president.
If Obama pushed magic liberal buttons, then Palin certainly pushed alot of magical conservative buttons. Those buttons and their readiness to be pushed can be evidenced by articles like this Daily Caller piece called “Sarah Palin: Too sexy for the left.”
If Barack Obama, with his ominous Muslimy African name and exotic background, had run in the 1970s, his political ascent would have been slower. Obama benefitted as much from the revolution in media, that allowed a buzz to be created quicker than ever, as from anything in his character, name or biography. It allowed him to raise millions of dollars in grassroots dollars and design a campaign that went beyond the radio and newspapers and into people’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
