Video: Paul Ryan is Getting Desperate on Medicare Defense
Paul Ryan, everyone’s favorite cause of the loss in NY-26, went on Fox today to defend his radical destruction of how senior citizens are stripped away of their guaranteed health benefits. What are his new arguments?
- The CBO study that Dems cite forget to include a $7800 for “low income” seniors that would defray the cost of $6000 that CBO projected in it’s analysis. How that’s funded or who qualifies I haven’t been able to find easily, but it doesn’t change the fact that it adds a burden to most seniors.
- Obamacare kills Medicare and Medicare will bankrupt itself if we don’t change it. Something he likes to repeat over and over and over (video of his demagouging below).
-Private insurers will fight for seniors’ business because it’s the private sector. He claims that it already happening with Medicare Part D insurance, as well as MediGap. Why do private companies need to compete to get business that people are more or less required to have? For a semi-relavent example, let’s ask the oil industry.
- He also tout’s that Medicare Part D has come in at costs of under 41% of projections. If anyone is familiar with Part D, this is partly because of the vicious “Donut Hole” where seniors are required to pay full expense after a certain dollar amount, for a period of time (which varies depending on the individual’s cost), and then Part D picks up the cost again at almost no cost to seniors. Sounds a lot like his plan… make the individual pay.
- It’s just like what Bill Clinton’s 1999 Bipartisan Committee suggested. Factcheck.org took offense to that, and for good reason. Clinton had very little to do with the formation of that comitee and he feared that inflation would override costs (something Ryan doesn’t address).
