Catholic Charities. Putting their religious dogma ahead of the welfare of children, every time.

For a scathing indictment of how Catholic foster-care services wrecked the childhood of an amazing woman, read Theresa Cameron's Foster Care Odyssey: A Black Girl's Story.

There's a lot of good Catholics out there that give to the Church for the purpose of charities just like this. Catholics who don't much give a damn about the gay adoption issue. If I were one of them, I'd be super pissed right now.

That's a bishop who could stand to reread the Gospels again.

Of course he could simply be taking orders directly from the Archbishop or from the Bishop of Rome.

re: #2 Slumbering Behemoth

Unfortunately, they've hitched their wagon to an institution that puts the church above all else. If this hasn't been painfully apparent after all the sex abuse scandal coverups, this adds an exclamation point to the end.

Where churches are concerned, it's rarely about helping without strings attached.

Oh yeah, Jesus would've LOVED this...

What's that missing commandment? "Thall shalt abandon children when they need your help the most"?

Truth be told the Church's credibility on doing what's best for children has pretty much been destroyed already. I'm not sure an institution that is so comfortable with harboring pedophiles should be in the business of caring for orphans. I'm not really sure if this is good or bad.
