Just a quick reminder of the difference between these two days.
Memorial day is to remember our fallen, to visit memorials, to visit graves, and it was previously known as Decoration Day.
Veterans Day is to honor all who have served or who are serving in our military during conflict.
I’m creating this quick post because I am seeing some naive tweets out there that don’t seem to know the difference.

I half-heard a story on NPR this morning that was about making food that people will remember, and they started with "Memorial day is about memories, so..." and went into their food piece.
Is it petty to be offended by that? Because I am.

Media and marketing - get someones attention first is primary - exploit what ever you have to, to get attention then dovetail it into your message. And our sensitivities be damned. Think Disney/Seal Team 6 ...
I agree with you but that's just the way it is now-a-days. The folks dreaming up ways to sell, sell, sell, do not care ... think Google.
Its all numbers - most folks will not even notice the subtle manipulation.
Military associated Lizards are obviously hyperaware of this.

I think what irks me the most is "Happy Memorial Day". WHAT?? Solemn, maybe, serious - I have finally decided to wish people a Thoughtful, or Thankful Memorial Day. & I don't care who thinks I'm being priggish about it, either.

This would be why I visited my two grandfathers' (both WWII vets) graves this weekend rather than calling up my Vietnam Vet uncle. (Not that I don't love him.)
(I visit the one on Saturday rather than today because he's buried in the big veterans' cemetery and it is NUTS today.)
