3 More Republican WI State Senator Recalls Approved
Now 6 will face recall over the summer. There are three recalls pending against Democratic senators but these remain on hold while a conservative group out of Colorado that ran them is investigated for alleged improprieties in their signature gathering. 3 seats changing from Republican to Democratic would give the Democrats a majority in the Wi state senate.
State election officials have cleared the way for three more GOP state senators to face recall elections, meaning six senators will almost certainly have to defend their seats.
Republicans had challenged recall petitions against Sens. Robert Cowles, Alberta Darling and Sheila Harsdorf. On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board tossed out most of the challenges.
The senators still have the option of challenging the board’s decision in court. Otherwise they’ll face recall elections in the next few months.
Three Democratic state senators are also being targeted for recalls. The GAB last week delayed a final decision on recall efforts against them, saying it needs more time to review challenges.
All nine lawmakers came under fire because of their positions on state legislation cutting collective bargaining rights for most public employees.
