Florida. Leave Your Brain At Home.

2 What, me worry?  Wed, Jun 1, 2011 9:11:15am

I'm a little confused. You said your liberal friends are for this. What exactly is their argument for it?

I can't imagine liberals, Democrats, could support such a thing. I'm not saying you're not telling the truth. Well I don't know if you are or not! But certainly, any liberal who supports such a thing isn't much of a liberal.

It comes down to drug testing the poor, because you know, only crack hos bilk the government out of benefits. The article states also that extends beyond insurance benefits and applies to welfare recipients. That's the name of the article, in fact.

I want to say, also, that all of these horrifying laws cannot be laid only at the feet of this fascist, piece of shit Governor. Equal blame goes to the Republicans in the legislature (who hold majority) for letting these laws pass through.

Oh, I think it's just that the unemployed are an easy target. Even Scott's democratic opponent, Alex Sink was in favor of this:

Gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink's campaign says, "Alex Sink does not have a problem with drug testing welfare recipients, but wants to make sure that it is done in a cost-effective way.”

As a Democrat, neither can I...

This bill, much like the Governor behind it, has Epic Fail written all over it, and will probably be stricken down in time.

It will definitely be stricken down.......I doubt it'll ever even be enforced. Wonder how much Governor Scott (R-Elm Street) will spend in taxpayer money fighting the lawsuits in court.

Hell, I'm tempted to get fired and eat a poppy seed bagel just to take it to this guy

The link you quoted talks about welfare and not unemployment insurance.

Scott signs bill forcing drug tests on welfare recipients

Not that it makes it any better, but welfare and unemployment are two different things.

I think it's a total guilty-til-proven innocent way of approaching things, with the responsibility and initial cost of proving their worthiness burdening people who already have enough shit to deal with. Also, the cost of running this program represents a lot of wasted money.

By the same logic they should drug test all college students reviving Pell Grants. That would open up some seats in the classrooms.

Interesting tidbit that probably had nothing at all to do with Scotts decision: His wife runs a health care company that does, among other things, drug tests.

It's funny. The only reference I can find to Alex Sink on this topic is that quote from her "campaign". I don't ever recall her making such statements, but I could certainly have missed them. Even so, I find it hard to believe that it would be something she would be itching to do while there are so many other important things to be hashed out.

My husband and I campaigned for her. We were shocked when she didn't win.

She said it during a debate as well....I think the CNN debate with John King

Where did you campaign for her? I actually worked on that campaign out of the Tampa HQ

It's not really his wife's company. It was his and he signed it over to her.

This guy is and has always been a criminal. In the 90s, his company received the largest fine in history for Medicare fraud. By all rights, this prick should be in prison.

I'm so tired of these "fiscal conservatives" gaming the system. And this guy is the worst, funneling money by mandate to his own freaking company.
