Middle East/North Africa Protest and Crackdown Roundup
The ME roundup.
Things are going from bad to worse in Syria as Assad’s thugs have again opened fire on protesters in Hama. At least 27 are reported dead in that city alone in today’s protests following midday prayers.
Fighting continues in Libya as NATO has resumed airstrikes against Khadafi’s forces, but Khadafi’s support continues crumbling as yet another minister has defected.
The most serious situation though appears to be in Yemen, where tribal leaders fired rockets on the presidential compound and injured Ali Abdullah Saleh and other members of his entourage. The likelihood of a civil war is even higher today, and repeated attempts to broker a transition deal have failed.
