Key al Qaeda man killed in Pakistan by drone strike
“A U.S. drone strike killed a senior al Qaeda figure in Pakistan after a tipoff from local intelligence, a Pakistani intelligence official said on Saturday.
The elimination of Ilyas Kashmiri, regarded as one of the most dangerous militants in the world, appeared to be another coup for the United States after American special forces killed Osama bin Laden in a garrison town close to Islamabad on May 2.
Islamabad’s cooperation in the killing could help repair ties with Washington, badly damaged when it was discovered that bin Laden had apparently been living in Pakistan for years.”
BTW, Hot Air to their credit did a honest report on how important this kill was and got the typical “Obama buried his head in his hands” comments, but one, rare comment from a rare “real, rational, righty” nailed it with his reply:
“Because it’s unlikely that someone who ordered more attacks buried his head in his hands when those attacks worked.
People on here created a narrative a long time ago that Obama is soft on terror and views killing terrorists as counter-productive because he just wants Muslims to love us, and assumed that Obama agreed with the extreme left on these issues (“Bush kills brown people,” etc.). Then once he continued pretty much all of the foreign policies that conservatives wanted, and in fact became more aggressive on issues like drone attacks, instead of people saying, “Hey, I guess he isn’t so bad on foreign issues, and even though we disagree with him on domestic issues, he’s pretty good in the war on terror,” they make sarcastic remarks referencing those extreme leftists, as if it really is true that he agrees with them and is being a hypocrite.
It’s kind of ridiculous. If he doesn’t do what you want, then you rightly criticize him, but if he does what you want, you act as if he’s a hypocrite for not being consistent with the narrative you incorrectly constructed for him.”
