I love it.

Does this count web views? I know this is how me and my friends watch it--none of us have cable. If not, then is ratings are vastly underestimated due to the nearly opposite demographics: young people watching internet shows vs. older generation who watch cable.

According to this article (admittedly from 2009), Nielsen TV ratings don't have a system for counting online views. So if they haven't changed since then, no, online views of The Daily Show aren't counted toward its total ratings (and then there are all kinds of different ways for viewing online content, as well - you could watch on the show's official website, or clips shared on blogs - if those aren't being tracked in some way, you're right, the ratings here are a big underestimation).

The original post also mention the only Fox show getting higher ratings is O'Reilly, but given the average age of his viewers seems to be 71, it goes without saying whose demographic is more desirable.

I guess viewers are migrating to the news sources that will keep them best informed.

Sad that we have to rely on comedy shows for good information.

Mind you, we get plenty of comedy in return from Fox News.

As one who watches the next day on-line, it's probably a way underestimated audience. I would like to know how many, like me, watch this way.

just FYI, Nielsen has an online monitoring service similar to the teevee one. I know this because until last month I was a Nielsen family and they hooked my up to the internet one. I had already been an internet person, but they upgraded the one I had. I don't remember where I downloaded it, but if you google for it you should find it. That way, your online watching gets counted in their internet ratings. I don't know if that's included in the overall teevee show ratings, but it can't hurt.

I always watch Stewart online. I don't even know where the comedy channel is on our cable box.

Just so it is clear.... watching online usually means not watching the commercials. So for the purposes of selling advertising, they would not could.

Damn autofill... could = count

So for the purposes of selling advertising, they would not count.

Ha ha ha... have you watched comedy central online? They've got ads, dude. Any television website is going to have ads in their videos, just like they do on television.
