What's the likelihood that Weiner used the same password for multiple accounts?

If he's like many people, very, very likely.

That's it? Note that the article simply claims that the image was tweeted from Tweetdeck... but how many people use TweetDeck daily - millions and millions?

re: #3 freetoken

Well, according to them, it was tweeted by him, and from tweetdeck-- so it would mean an actual hack.

However:

1. He said all along that he was hacked. I thought he was just using the general paraphrase-- maybe he was being accurate.

2. The Daily was personally launched by Rupert Murdoch, and is owned by NewsCorp. TweetCongress.org is run by two guys who may or may not be legit. They'll probably explain more as this goes forwards, but providing information exclusively to The Daily makes me wonder why.

3. This still revealed the yfrog vulnerability, which is a darn good thing.

Can you post pictures via yfrog using TweetDeck? (never used the app myself)

Apparently, yes.

I use yfrog via Tweetdeck and those posts reference Tweetdeck. Here is an example: [Link: twitter.com...]

The most likely explanation -- because I've done this myself more than once by accident using Tweetdeck -- is that he sent the offending message himself, thinking it was a direct message, but instead it went out public. The difference between clicking the DM and a public response button is just a few pixels.

If it was a hacker who sent the offending image out, it would be easy to prove by looking at IP addresses in the program logs.

I thought he was hacked at first too, until I saw his performance on the Rachel Maddow interview.

yfrog is the default image hosting website on Tweetdeck.

re: #7 MPH

But that doesn't explain much of anything. He didn't send the picture, he sent a link to the picture on yfrog. Yfrog pictures are public. So, he'd have to have uploaded the picture to yfrog and then accidentally hit the direct message.

Also, why was the patriotUSA dude claiming there was a sex scandal that was about to break? Just an enormous coincidence?

It's entirely possible, as it always has, that he sent the message. But 'he clicked the wrong button' doesn't explain it.

Occam's Razor. If you used Tweetdeck regularly, you'd understand.

re: #10 MPH

I do use Tweetdeck regularly. I know how it works. When you drag and drop the picture-- it gets uploaded to yfrog. That's how it works for me.

So, in order to believe the scenario where he accidentally sends it non-private, you have also include him forgetting that any picture uploaded to yfrog is not private. Which, again, is entirely possible, but it does require an extra level of complexity; it's two mistakes, one a rather large one of judgement rather than a misclick.

And it still doesn't explain why the creepy stalker dude was predicting this before it occurred.
