And that's why I love the Alamo Drafthouse. Well, that and the fact that I can get real food and a drink during a movie. :D

Why I stopped going to theaters years ago. Download from the net, invite the neighbors and like minded friends over over and use my PC projector. We all enjoy the movies that way. Funny, it was rare back in the 40s & 50s - even the 60s for someone to be so inconsiderate. What happened?

During her rant when she says...

I've texted in ALL the other theaters in Austin, and no one ever gave a fuck.

It just shows how clueless the daft bitch is, of course people gave a fuck, they just felt constrained enough by civilized mores to not make a issue out of it and disturb the other theater goers even more with a shouting match during the film.

Considering what they charge for tickets nowadays you would think that all theaters could afford to hire ushers again like they used to once upon a time. You can't see a film anymore without cell phones ringing, babies crying, glowing cell phones everywhere going beep-boop-beep as their inconsiderate owners/parents ignore the effect on the other patrons. Bring back the ushers and kick all these rude people out, watching a film is somewhat about the suspension of disbelief. You want to "live" in the story while seeing it, not be constantly returned to reality by distractions caused by other patrons.

Personally if I owned a theater I think I would just require all cell phones, PDAs, and other electronic devices to be checked at the door.

The owner of the Drafthouse is awesome for other reasons, too. For example, the city was recently going to show Napoleon Dynamite as part of a summer in the park movie series, but disability rights advocates complained about the word "retarded" in the film, so the city pulled the movie. Here was his response:

And the lesson we can take away from this is never call and bitch at anyone when you're stinking drunk.

I can spot a drunk a mile off having the unpleasant fortune of living with one for 5 years. On the phone or in a chat room, or hey, even on a blog. Hence the "Magnited States" comment, slurring her words, abnormal use of profanity. She's gonna feel like a moron when she sobers up.

The theater is the most obvious place, but rude cell phone people are everywhere. I was trying to get a piece of fruit at the market and had to navigate around this idiot jabbering away blocking everyone's path. I thought, "Great, it's not bad enough I have to try to get around them when they're doing 25 mph in a 40 mph zone, but in the grocery?"

There's no going back either, I'm afraid.

Mr. Heat has this weird thing about the Twilight movies. He loves them. I don't, he does. It's one of those, "Who would have guessed THAT?" sort of things. Anyway, the local theater had a Twilight-a-thon thing, and he dragged me along. Mostly because he didn't want to be the only 50 year old guy in the theater in a sea of teenage girls. Probably afraid he'd look like a perv.

We could not believe all the texting and cell phones being used during the movies. People would stand up and snap photos of each other, like they were documenting being present for the moon landing, then text them to their friends. Hundreds of people. All texting. At once.

The theater was lit up like a Christmas tree. I've never seen anything like it. It was an epic culmination of stupid and rude and crazy.

Seriously - there is no need to holler into the phone to make yourself heard. I've spoken in a near whisper and if the words are clearly enunciated, people can hear and understand you. I think some folks think their lives are just oh-so-fascinating, everybody is looking at them in awe - when it's really disgust.

You know what I have to say about this?

You're a wonderful wife :) And you're husband's quite lucky and I'm assuming he knows that.
