Seriously. There is an organized effort to take away the outrage on this by concentrating on the sending of pictures, which sounds so innocent.

I agree that the twit pic, or yfrog pic is meaningless, however I hope the apology he gave was about the lying. Not only lying but standing by while he heard and saw people blame others for what he knew he did.

That is worse than lying.

And I think he has continued to lie. When he says that he never used congressional resources for this little hobby of his… I think he is lying about that. He fell right back into that “I can’t recall every event, but I don’t think that I …”

He knows what he did, and he can recall. That is exactly the same as the “I can’t say with certainhood” lie.

Is using congressional resources for this sort of thing (phone sex?) against the Law? I don’t really know. Nancy Pelosi seems to think so. I hear a lot of talking heads say they think so.

The biggest offense was when Weiner repeatedly looked the Press in the eye and said “I was hacked, I didn’t send it.”

The second biggest offense, in my mind, was standing there and NOT speaking up when the people around him started to throw terrible accusations at others. Hacking into his account would be a federal crime. Allowing others to make that accusation of specific people was very serious.

Right Wing conspiracy? Nope…

He only came forward when he was trapped. IMO he showed no real courage. That would have been demonstrated by getting ahead of the story and telling the truth BEFORE it was exposed by AB.

The one thing we know is that he’s a liar and he was really trying to make it seem plausible. So plausible, in fact, that a lot of people believed him.

I’m beginning to think it’s just a Guy v. Gal thing, the actual pictures. Men don’t seem to have the visceral reaction that women do (by and large). Men can find excuses for it. Women are much harder judges in this regard.

The undie pic was awful. If I found that my hubby sent that to a woman? Not even a nekkid one, but one like that? I’d go after him with a rolling pin or frying pan or some 1950’s man-beating device (and not in a good way).

As to “against the law” or an actual crime, I’m confused about that too. I think it goes under harassment though or inappropriate behavior. You can’t put a person in jail for those things, but you can fire them. I think Weiner should be fired or forced to resign.

Love Alec Baldwin on 30 Rock, but in real life he has an odd habit of sticking up for the wrong people at the wrong time. He also stuck up for Charlie Sheen a while back. Baldwin’s some kinda pro bono celebrity jackass defense attorney.

The way Baldwin treats his ex-wife and daughter, I’ve pretty much come to assume that at any given point, the next thing out of his mouth will be sleazy and misogynistic. He’s like a leftist Newt Gingrich.

Watch how this is just part of an organized effort to change what Weiner did to “just sent pictures” instead of “lied to everyone for 10 days.”

Rachel Maddow, David Letterman, Bladwin…so far.

I predict you will see the media start to shift and be outraged at the outrage. After all it is just a stupid man thing, not at all serious. They will try to shift it away from the lying.

They will compare Weiner to conservatives that were caught doing stupid things like posting a picture of themselves half naked on Craigslist. When they do, ask yourself if that politician also repeated the lie that they didn’t do it. Ask yourself if that politician stood by while others were blamed for what they knew they did.

The outrage is about the lying, not really about pictures, tweets or FaceBook.

re: #5 Buck

His actions anger me because I feel for his wife and family. I’ve felt the same kind of betrayal, humiliation and degradation that has been dumped on them. Now, ironically, that he also shares. So from a woman’s standpoint, I can empathize. Even though he didn’t betray/humiliate me, personally, it still doesn’t excuse his misdeeds which I regard as a form of cheating, tho I know others do not. In the least, it was really bad and childish behavior for a grown man in politics.

The lying is another thing. First, to his wife and family, but very particularly in this case, to the public and I do agree that this is why most people are in an uproar and rightly so.

In Judaism, the word we use to describe “sin” is “chet”. It means “missing the mark”. The idea is that if you have done something wrong, you must then step back, rethink, ask for forgiveness, make a commitment not to repeat the mistake and try again (teshuva which means “return”). That’s pretty much the same in Christian theology as well. We may not have all cheated or sent dirty pics across the interwebs, but most of us (all?) have lied, hurt others, regretted it and hope for forgiveness from others and also ourselves.

The worst punishment for a liar, as Weiner will find out, is that they are hard to be believed even when they’re telling the truth. Reestablishing that trust is a long road he’s going to have to travel. First with his wife and family and also with the public if he wants to continue in politics.

Actors are usually famous for their looks, not their brains.
Just saying!
