It’s NY.

Charlie Rangel got reelected as well.

It’s not just NY, but Rangel’s experience is telling. Constituents generally like the job that their representatives do, regardless of whatever criminality, illegality, or flawed ethical or moral situations their representatives get themselves into.

Rangel was reelected twice after the tax cheating/avoidance and ethics scandal broke; once after he was censured by the House. Both times he won by a significant margin.

Weiner may not win by such a significant margin, but he’s still in a safe district for Democrats, so isn’t likely to lose.

That’s a situation that most members of Congress are in - they’re in safe seats.

One potential monkey wrench is that redistricting will take place ahead of 2012, which will shift his district slightly. That could potentially alter his support base.

Ohhhh, so it’s okay to whip out the broad brush when talking about NY’ers, huh? //

Seriously though, NY’ers are nothing if not practical, and they generally witness more bizarre behavior in one work week than people in (most) other parts of the county witness in a year. If they feel a politician is getting the job done, they generally tend to stick with them.
