Cops fear IRA faction war
Fears are mounting that all out war may be about to kick off between the two main IRA groups, the ‘Real’ IRA and the Continuity IRA, after a fatal shooting yesterday.
Father-of-four Liam Kenny was gunned down in his home in Clondalkin yesterday on what was his 53rd birthday.
According to reports in the Irish Daily Star, Kenny was a senior member of the Continuity IRA while two brothers, believed to be members of the ‘Real’ IRA, have emerged as the main suspects.
Another theory being pursued is that he may have been shot by members of a Dublin drug gang in retaliation for a string of attacks carried out by republican groups against individuals involved in dealing and criminality.
The gunmen arrived at Kenny’s home at 4am yesterday where he was celebrating his birthday. They attempted to gain access to the house but when this failed, they blasted the victim through the front door.
