It's the UN. No one harbors any illusions as to what and whom they are;

That said, you take whatever good news you can get from an organization whose has many member states who would kill gays in the namne of God,religion and culture.

Any win at the UN is a big win.

It all counts. Every move forward IS indeed a move in the right direction. Of course we all, naturally, want more but happiness, at it's core, is brought about by being "in the moment" and appreciating it, just so.

conservatism isn't just a domestic problem. it is an international menace.

Aside from some UN based charities, the UN in general is a joke. A sick, twisted joke, where child prostitution/rape is the punchline.

Letting amoral dictators vote on human rights and nations frequently involved in wars vote on world peace, is like letting the mafia have a say on how to fight crime.

The UN is noble-sounding in its charter, despicable in its membership, and impotent in its results. This is the kind of organization the world deserves, but certainly not what the world needs.

UN-haters make me laugh.

EVIL INTERNATIONALISTS! THE NWO!

One thing the UN has done a good job with is the stewardship of country codes for phone numbers. It works!

The UN was more or less meant for governments of various nations to get together.

It succeeded in that respect, but that means it will hurt other objectives. The UN will get better with time.

I don't know about you, but I'm still doubting the sincerity ever since they figured homophobia wasn't discrimination.

It's nice that the UN Human Rights Council is doing something else other than trying to pass anti-Israeli resolutions, I just don't see the domino effect it will have on people or countries who are anti-gay.

Think about it this way: if the resolution has been rejected, would pro-gay people and countries reconsider their views? Would Canada cancel gay marriage?

Pro or anti gay, I fair to see how a UN resolution on the subject would change much.

I'd like to think that this is the "leeway" that the developed countries deserve for letting the OIC bloc keep churning out their anti-Israel resolutions at the very least.

Don't pigeonhole me with that crowd. Just about everyone, from bleeding-heart liberals, to tin-foil hat conservatives, give the UN way too much credit. Its neither going to save nor conquer the world. Its just a lame, old joke. Why is that so difficult to understand and accept?

re: #7 ProLifeLiberal

How much time? The UN is 66 years old. In other words, pretty much all of the guys who originally made these lofty promises of rights and peace, are dead and gone. We're not the least bit closer to world peace or universal human rights.

The way the UN is structured, it's just not going to happen. Not even at a snail's pace.

re: #10 laZardo

So many UN forums are little more than anti-Israeli, anti-sematic propaganda boxes. But at least we've got a bit lip service for gay rights. That makes its all better. /sarc
