No swimming at Stinson Beach - shark sighted
STINSON BEACH — A shark was spotted off Stinson Beach over the weekend, prompting the National Park Service to limit access to the water this week.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted what appeared to be a great white shark, between 8 to 15 feet long, about 200 to 300 yards off the northern part of the beach, said park service spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet.
As a precaution, swimmers will only be allowed into the water knee-deep through at least Thursday, Picavet said. Officials have posted signs to warn beachgoers.
