Bin Laden’s Death Comes To Your Comic Book Store
Comics crossover with modern events – including America’s current wars in the Middle East – often, but this September IDW Publishing will release a new graphic novel that may draw even more attention due to the nature of its subject matter: the death of Osama bin Laden.
The Associated Press has a brief story circulating papers such as News-Press of Ft. Meyers, FL on a new 88-page hardcover graphic novel called “Code Word: Geronimo” that the publisher plans to release this September 6, just days before the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks bin Laden masterminded. Written by retired U.S. Marine Captain turned actor, writer and Hollywood military advisor Dale Dye (“Platoon,” “Falling Skies”) and Julia Dye, the comic will provide a creative take on the people and Navy SEALs who planned and undertook the mission to kill the al-Qaeda leader. The story stressed that the book would not have a political bent.
While they are best known for their licensed and genre comics, IDW has worked in the field of news-related reality comics before. In 2008 ahead of the presidential election, the company released dueling biographies of candidates John McCain and Barack Obama under the “Presidential Material” label.
