Gator getaway (gator stuck in storm drain)
Another case of a reptile dysfunction:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -
You’ve probably heard stories of alligators swimmin’ in storm sewers. Stories?? Just ask the folks at Hilton Head Plantation.
Residents say a nine foot gator weighing over 200 pounds has been trapped in a storm drain for two months. At first they thought he was just making his way back and forth to the same location, but after hearing some loud hisses, neighbors quickly realized the reptile needed help.
Resident Joe Hanley said, “Alligators are not my favorite animal, but I understand that they’re here and I don’t wish them any ill will. I don’t want to see an animal suffer and being trapped in a confined space like that with no food, no water I think is inhumane.”
The gator was freed early Friday afternoon by Critter Management and is said to be healthy and active. Crews have safely relocated the animal to a lagoon.
