A letter from Desmond Tutu re: Palestine / Or: Why I never really was able to embrace Desmond Tutu
I have visited the occupied Palestinian territories and have witnessed the humiliation of Palestinians at Israeli military checkpoints: the inhumanity that won’t let ambulances reach the injured, farmers tend their land or children attend school.
I wonder if he has also visited the nice new shopping mall, or, more to the point, examined the tunnels through which arms and contraband are smuggled. I cannot get past the fact that simply having suffered oneself does not make one an expert on the suffering of others.
