Jerusalem post has some interesting details....
IDF fears flotilla activists plan to use chemical weapons

According to the information obtained by the IDF, some of the participants have prepared sacks with sulfur, which they plan to pour on the soldiers as they board the vessels.

“This is a chemical weapon, and if poured on a soldier it can paralyze him,” an IDF source told The Jerusalem Post Monday night. “If the sulfur is then lit on fire, the soldier will light up like a torch.”

The information was obtained from closed meetings held by participants on the ships during which some voiced their intention to “murder Israeli soldiers,” according to the IDF.

The ship is bugged. Heh.

The Israelis should take a page from the Sea Shepherds and use prop fouling lines to disable the flotilla's ships. Once disabled, the ships can be left to drift till they request towing, which will take them away from Gaza. Any attempt to deploy divers to clear the lines can be countered with the IDF sending in its own divers to detain them.

That's what they think. The IDF is just as good as we are at defeating booby traps.

Israel Rescinds Threat to Reporters on Flotilla
ERUSALEM — Israel on Monday set aside a warning it issued the previous day that foreign journalists aboard a flotilla planning to challenge its naval blockade of Gaza risked being barred from the country for up to a decade and having their equipment impounded.

Also, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Monday that he had instructed the relevant authorities to devise a special procedure for journalists covering the flotilla bound for Gaza, on the assumption that they would end up in Israel. In contrast to the activists on board, it said that the journalists would not be subject to the “regular policy against infiltrators and those who enter Israel illegally.” .....

Smart idea. Many of the reporters are likely to be anti-Israelm but going after reporters is far more trouble than its worth for a Western country. Even if the government is in the right, they look in the wrong.

Not a bad plan, I don't think. Avoiding boarding is probably best at this stage of things.

It was a dumb thing to say. Glad they retracted quickly.
