That's what gay kids need, more peer pressure based on something beyond their control. It's like trying to peer pressure short kids into being taller. "What the fuck is wrong with you? Don't you know all the cool kids are tall?"

But, but, but........they said they were only concerned with fiscal issues. Did they lie to us?

Bully
Back.

If only the strategy wasn't thwarted by Zero Tolerance guidance counselors that suspend both the instigator and the victim.

I should know.

5 HappyWarrior  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 5:56:46am

This is exactly why no one should believe the TP when they claim to be only concerned about fiscal issues.

6 Vicious Babushka  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 6:09:24am

All kinds of bullying are wrong. What next, it's OK to bully a fat kid so he'll get off his ass and exercise and eat healthy? It's OK to bully a shy girl so she'll come out of her shell and socialize?

7 HappyWarrior  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 6:22:38am

By the way whatever the hell happened to the Golden Rule? You have the right to believe homosexuality is sinful, sure I disagree strongly with that but we should still treat others how we want to be terated.

God made this thing called “peer pressure” to keep kids in line

That's a new one. I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian home, went to fundy Christian schools for 14 years. Peer pressure was always considered bad because peer pressure made good kids do bad things--smoke cigarettes, hang out with the wrong kids, have sex, use bad language, etc.

But I guess it's all just so very "manly" for the new faux Christian teabag patriots to be allowed to bully people.

9 Locker  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 7:28:52am

Yea it's homosexuality causing their suicide attempts and not their treatment by fuckheads like yourself. Right.

10 Obdicut  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 7:52:26am

What a fucking moron.

Smoking doesn't get prevented by peer pressure. It gets caused by it.

Aggressively stupid.

I can't keep up with all the new, head-spinning claims from teabag nation.

I agree with Gulf Coast Gives that “LGBT youth are up to five times more likely to attempt suicide than their straight counterparts”.

And exactly what the fuck do you think it is causing them to want to kill themselves, you insensitive prick?

I know that came out strongly, but I was bullied MERCILESSLY as a teenager and nearly killed myself because of it. I am not gay, but the fact that anyone, anywhere could condone bullying, especially of the malicious type, as a "healthy" thing really sets me on fire.

You don't know what you're talking about until you've lived it buddy. Try being afraid to even leave your house at all because you don't know who you might run into. Unless you've walked that path, you need to shut the fuck up and quit making stupid statements.

"I agree with Gulf Coast Gives that “LGBT youth are up to five times more likely to attempt suicide than their straight counterparts”. Homosexuality, like drugs, harms young people if they experement [sic] with it. That is the greatest tragedy."
Wrong. The greatest tragedy is warped a-holes just like you projecting your bullshit wrapped up as concern to a bunch of dumb ass cretins who have to listen to AM radio or Fox News to figure out what to think. Tea Party. One Armband Away.

14 nines09  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 8:29:46am

And while I'm at it, peer pressure also includes my right to knock your teeth down your throat when you disgust me. Right, genius?

Yes. They did. (Yes, I know that was a rhetorical question. I just couldn't resist.)

I also managed a bitter chuckle when I read a quote from a "Tea Party voter" in our local paper saying CA needed more cuts to balance our budget. He then complained that the roads were bad up near the Oregon border (hard on the RV, doncha know) and we needed to fix that.

Obviously, more tax cuts and less gubmit spending will solve that bad roads problem.

That's what has always killed me about many of these "small government" types. On the one hand, they cry about too much gubmint and too many taxes. On the other, they bitch about lousy roads and things that need to be fixed.

What. The. Fuck. Do they just not see the disconnect?

I don't bother. They're full of shit and if they had their way, we'd devolve socially back to the Dark Ages.

Next up for the Tea Party:

An "It Gets Worse" PSA Campaign targeted to gay teens telling them that unless they lose teh ghey their lives will always be meaningless. Guest speakers include David Tyree, Marcus Bachmann, and Tracy Morgan

Most of the so-called Christianity of the tea partiers I can't even recognize. It's pure tribalism, with nothing religious or sacred about it.

What a dick. I'm sure he inwardly rejoices with he reads a story of a gay teen suicide. One less homo in the world! What a tragedy, my kids now have less people to bully.

The tragic irony of them quoting suicide rates as a reason to "pressure" (read: bully) kids when it's the already incessant bullying that is most likely the cause of it.

Self-righteous A-holes.

Too many adults would answer yes to both of those. I had to speak up at a staff meeting a couple of days ago when everyone started in on how we needed to make one student stop sitting by herself and reading during breaks.

I told them that sometimes people are just introverts, and THAT'S OK. The kid interacts fine with her classmates. She's polite and pleasant. She just wants to be left alone during lunchtime to read. How can that not be OK with people teaching in a society that supposedly champions the individual?

Well, it can work both ways, and peer pressure can, in some circumstances, be positive.

But this guy is unreal. He looks at the suicide statistics, and thinks that being called a faggot by your peers with adult approval will HELP with that? It's not the openly out kids with support who go off the rails.

They have no religious ideals that demand anything from them, only from other people.

That ain't religion.

You have hit the nail right on the head.

28 Prideful, Arrogant Marriage Equality Advocate  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 4:09:46pm

Yes. Thank goodness at my school there was so much peer pressure to stay off drugs, drinking and smoking and get good grades.

29 Mickey Blumental  Thu, Jun 30, 2011 5:05:25pm

I would like to peer pressure Rich Swier's face with my boot to pressure him to stop acting like a dick.
