Planned Parenthood challenges Arizona’s new abortion laws
Thank you again, Planned Parenthood.
Arizona’s largest abortion provider says new laws to restrict abortion services should be blocked because they trample on state constitutional rights and would reduce the availability of abortion services in smaller cities.
Planned Parenthood Arizona’s lawsuit filed in Maricopa County Superior Court late Wednesday challenges provisions of two measures scheduled to take effect on July 20. It expands a previously filed lawsuit against other abortion measures.
The newly challenged provisions include ones to require clinics that perform medication abortions satisfy state requirements previously imposed on clinics that perform surgical abortions. Others include prohibiting nurse practitioners from performing medication abortions.
Approximately half of the abortions performed in Arizona are done through medication, according to state data.
Planned Parenthood said the challenged provisions, if implemented, would effectively end abortion services in Flagstaff and Yuma and severely restrict them in Prescott. And services in the state’s most populous cities, Phoenix and Tucson, would be delayed, Planned Parenthood said.

Time for another preliminary injunction.
