Improvements:

1) Drill a hole in one edge location hanging to the side of the disc—it will add instability to the movement.

2) Use Windows OS Master discs.

Ah, I like that idea. I just found a few more discs. I’ll give that a try.

My garden is small, only 20x30 ft in raised beds. They are completely covered by bird netting in Summer and plastic in Winter, supported by PVC arches 20 ft across and rising to 6 ft. No birds, squirrels, dogs. The PVC has lasted with negligible repair through 10-15 yrs of Alabama sun.

That video was great.

OOPS—make that 10x60, divided into 120 cells 4 ft x 2 ft, with a 2ft access path down the middle. It’s paid for itself about 2.5 times so far this season.

I’ve been trying to avoid bird netting because I don’t care for the way it looks but I might reconsider.

I might steal that idea and used the pond fountain as the power source.

It works—the garden has its own technical aesthetic. It’s a machine to produce vegetables. Besides the net, I use a ground mat of recycled fabric (when possible the plants are set though slits in it). A permanent water distribution manifold with feeders goes to each of the major plants. Mother Earth News would not approve, but I use no herbicides and almost no pesticide.

I think I’m starting to come to grips with that attitude. I don’t really care for the aesthetics of the CD’s in the garden either but it doesn’t take long to appreciate the utilitarian beauty. The bird netting may give a simpler appearance. The cd’s make things look a little cluttered.

I’ll try to make a page and learn to post pictures. The netting is essentially invisible from 10 feet away, and cuts down on the excessive Summer light here in AL. Might be some loss for you up there. My garden is in the shade of giant pine trees half the day, but when the seed guys say “full sun” they’re not talking about our latitude. This year I’ve tailored the netting more closely to its supporting arches—much neater and better for cultivation access.

Please do. I’d love to see your set up.
