‘Audacity of Hope’ passengers’ next move: Hunger strike in Athens
The American passengers of the “Audacity of Hope,” which was prevented from sailing to the Gaza Strip on Friday, have declared a hunger strike, Ynet learned Sunday.
The passengers are staging the strike outside the US Embassy in Athens, and demand Washington to advocate for their right to sail from Greece to Gaza.
As posted previously, the blockade of Gaza is generally recognized as legal under applicable international law. So these folks are hoping that their actions will somehow move the US government to endorse and actively support an activity that is illegal, and has already been declared undesirable by the very government they are petitioning. What are they hoping to accomplish? Is the sight of Alice Walker not eating in front of the US Embassy in Athens going to change the State Department’s mind?
