I think of the Iowa caucus as a Renaissance Fair for right wing religious kooks.

It's so striking how Christian and Islamic religious laws are so similar and yet one is considered evil and the other Anointed.

They won't take the Catholic version--divorce and remarriage is infidelity.

It really is ironic that many social conservatives are fighting so hard against a (non existent) Sharia law threat and at the same time would love to pass Hanbali-Sharia like laws across the country.

They are tilting at windmills; and like Don Quixote, they are doing far more damage than good. Even the well-meaning ones.

I doubt it makes any difference to people being murdered by either. "There ain't no Devil, that's just God when he's drunk." Tom Waits.

Among the points for candidates to pledge are personal fidelity to his or her spouse, opposition to gay marriage and support in legal fights for the Defense of Marriage Act, opposition to sex trafficking and pornography, and opposition to "anti-women" Sharia Islamic law.

Because these are clearly the most pressing issues facing the United States right now. Jobs? Who cares? The economy? Pfft. Spiraling health care costs? Whatevs.

The only things that matter are teh gays, divorce, porn, and the non-existent threat of Sharia law.

I think eventually these groups will find themselves working together, setting asides religious differences to combat secularism. Crazier things have happened, and I wouldn't be at all shocked if there are already high-level talks ongoing between those from whom this is more about a power struggle and less about actual religious belief.

To whom? All these things seem like inconsequential side issues from where I sit. Energy policy, global warming, the deficit, and immigration are the only issues that really matter.

You clearly missed the sarc tags. That entire post is nothing but snark.
