Their logo is kind of creepy — looks like “The Human Centipede”

…if I logged onto a forum with The Human Centipede as a logo I’d be pretty shamed too.

Any Palestinian now caught using the page will be labeled a collaborator with the Israeli occupational machine, their views cast out of what is acceptable amongst Palestinians, those named shamed and hounded out of all discussions as their views are now unacceptable – thus says the mullah from Chicago.

Have you read the article you’ve alluded to? No is my guess so let me break it down for you: it’s an opinion piece wherein the secular Ali Abunimah concludes that the facebook page created by Uri Savir is not a legitimate attempt at diplomacy because it makes no acknowledgement of the oppression of the Palestinian people. Whether you agree with this position or not is irrelevant. What is relevant however, is your rebranding of Abunimah as a “mullah,” and calling his opinion piece a “fatwa” in an attempt to introduce a nonexistent religious element to his ideas and thereby encourage others to dismiss his opinion as that of a crazy rambling Islamist.

Also relevant is the claim that Abunimah views Palestinians who support the facebook site as “collaborators with the Israeli occupational machine.” Again, this deliberate misinformation serves to delegitimize his argument by associating him with fanaticism. Read his article (for the first time). I don’t see how any reasonable person can conclude that abunimah is accusing the two arabs mentioned in the NYT article of complicity with the Israeli occupation.

Just wondering, is Gideon Levy a mad “mullah”? Are his opinion pieces “fatwas”? Your posts smack of racism and I challenge you to make a single truthful statement on your next I/P page.

First of all, I did not write this piece, I posted it from Harry’s Place, so if you want to challenge the author I suggest that you go over to HurryUpHarry.org and participate in the comments there.

Secondly, Gideon Levy is neither a “mad mullah” nor is he a “mad rabbi” but he is a screaming asshole, just like you, as all of your postings in this forum would attest to.

I have not seen a single post from lobengula that does not smack of racism and anti-Semitism and I challenge you to come out and engage people in the main section of this forum instead of hanging out in the pages.

Looking it over, Alouette, it does appear Ali Abunimah is secular, not an imam, and his statement isn’t in the least a fatwah.

re: #2 lobengula

However. Your claim here appears wrong.

You say:

Also relevant is the claim that Abunimah views Palestinians who support the facebook site as “collaborators with the Israeli occupational machine.”

But in his article, Abunimah says:

All such events and projects that bring Palestinians and/or Arabs and Israelis together, unless framed within the explicit context of opposition to occupation and other forms of Israeli oppression of the Palestinians, are strong candidates for boycott.

And otherwise argues that participation in such projects is what Israel wants, and is opposed to the goals of the Palestinians. He doesn’t accuse Palestinian participants of being self-aware collaborators, but he does say their participation aids Israel and harms Palestinians. I don’t think you’re representing his views on the topic honestly.

Alouette never claimed that Ali Abunimah is an Islamic religious scholar, the author of the article posted at Harry’s Place said that he was using his authority as the owner of ElectronicIntifada.com which is a kind of mirror-image or negative-image AtlasShrugs2000.

As far as what lobengula represents, its posts here speak for themselves.

re: #5 Alouette

Oh, I see. Fatwah is still the wrong word to use, but yeah, there’s no claim he’s an imam in the actual article, and it identifies him properly.

He basically thinks that any dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians unless it ‘acknowledges’ Israel as a terrible oppressor to be harmful.

Even if it were true that Israel were a terrible oppressor, his point would be without merit. Obviously, if it were true, humanizing the Palestinians to Israelis would be of huge importance. You’re a lot less likely to be comfortable with military action against people you actually know.

What an odd man.
