MobileMe Phishing Scam
I just received an email supposedly from Apple:
At first, I was excited to read this. I thought, cool, Apple is starting the iCloud transition already. Not so fast, Bucko. Check out the email - first thing that strikes me as odd is the copyright 2009 at the bottom. Then I notice the poor English as I begin reading the first sentence. So I open the file, which is an “update your credit card info” form with more questionable Apple info. Apple would never send someone a Safari file to fill out locally and then click to send to Apple. Nor would a genuine Apple form be so poorly formatted.
So I filled out a few of the form elements (First Name: F*ck Last Name: You) and saw that the first place I went was an IP address - 77.92.69.116 - which is somewhere in Great Britain, then it redirects to MobileMe to make it seem authentic. For an unsuspecting user, this scam could get all of your info - your email address and password, your home address and credit card info. Needless to say, you would be completely hosed if you submitted this form.
Beware of this scam if you are a MobileMe user.
