For the doomed on Utoya, Uniform plus Gun plus Killing = Israel /via ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Mr Pracon said he jumped into the water to swim for safety but turned around when he saw that the opposite shore was around 700 metres away.
“I swam back because I saw it was impossible for me to swim over. I’m very glad I did.
“Some of my friends tried to stop him by talking to him. Many people thought that it was a test … comparing it to how it is to live in Gaza. So many people went to him and tried to talk to him, but they were shot immediately.”
I was meandering around the blogosphere when I started seeing some comments about this statement and the mindset that gives rise to it. I could not believe it to be the unclouded truth, so I followed links until I came to this source report.
I am devastated on many counts by this. That the situation was so surreal that it led many to simply walk up to Breivik, just to be slaughtered, is heartbreaking. That the first thing that comes to the mind of left-leaning Norwegian youth when they see a man in uniform slaughtering innocents should be that Jews do the same thing to Gazans is as sad, though for different reasons.
What kind of brainwashing are political institutions and media perpetrating that a maniac on a killing spree is identified with an Israeli soldier? Why aren’t young people being inculcated with imagery of Syrian soldiers spraying unarmed marchers with machine-gun fire? What is the source of all this grass roots, systemic anti-Semitism?
I just want to throw up my arms in despair. So many dead, for no reason, and so many young minds being bent to a disgusting misperception of a democratic nation and a religious minority so diminishingly small, it could not populate a medium-sized US state.
