Beck's rambling holds even less than no water when you realize that this isn't Marvel canon. It's part of their Ultimate imprint.

The hell is he smoking. And besides who gives a shit if the new character is half black and hispanic. He's American is he not? Goddamned race baitign asshole.

Personally I think a black Batman would be really cool.

More importantly, he's got radioactive blood.

Which is the actual qualification for being Spider-Man.

The Marvel folks--Queseda, Bendis, and a few others--have already twittered that the character is based on Daniel Glover, who got a huge round of support after his audition for the Spider-man reboot.

Blatantly obvious Beck doesn't follow comics, and he pulled this event to cultivate ODS and racial butthurt.

Good choice. I could see him getting the Bruce Wayne suave/Batman intense dichotomy down. Every film Batman so far has just been incapable of that balance.

Weirdly, I'm such a fan of the Kevin Conroy animated Batman I have a hard time visualizing anybody as the Caped Crusader. People were like "Christian Bale!" and I was like, eh...

I swear we had an issue with the fact that the French Batman was Muslim. What is with the right wing obsession with Comic Books.

There was a similar hullabaloo: the big talking point was why the Batman of Paris wasn't someone "authentically French."

And a slightly different hue-and-cry when Idris Elba was cast as Heimdall for the Thor movie.

What is with the right wing obsession with Comic Books.

Honestly, I don't think they have a "thing" for comics--it would be hard to point to gripes about comics as being especially numerous or deranged amongst all the other deranged things being said in the current racial politics environment, where everything is subject to butthurt over a perceived loss of white priviledge. It may be because they view this as some kind of plot to indoctrinate kids, though I haven't heard this specifically articulated. Generally the complaints amount to cries of "affirmative action."

Steven Colbert is going to town on the Spiderman thing.

The conspiracy goes deeper than this. Mrs. Obama has been at this for a very long time, and is actually responsible for getting Will Smith cast in the role of Capt. James West in 1999's "Wild, Wild West". True story.

re: #6 The Ghost of a Flea

Actually it's Donald, not Daniel, Glover. Just a small correction.

It's not even the main Marvel Universe, it's in an alternate universe, called ultimate marvel. He''s not even the first character that turned black, but rather Ultimate Nick Fury did it first.

Besides, we already have an Indian Spider-man.

Okay, i've said it before and l will say it again.

If l can handle Max Von Sydow, Jeffrey Hunter, Robert Powell and Jim Caveizel playing Jesus people can suck it up and deal with a half-black half-hispanic Spiderman and Idris Elba playing a Norse God!!!

Samuel Jackson as Batman.

"I'm the motherfucking Batman"

Seriously. The whole reason that Samuel L. Jackson is even in the Marvel films is because they made Nick Fury look like him in the Ultimate Marvel universe.

I bet people are surprised when they go look at a regular Thor or Iron Man comic and see Nick Fury as a white guy.
