1 What, me worry?  Fri, Aug 5, 2011 8:55:01am

I’m disappointed with Clinton. I don’t know if it’s coming from her. Most likely not because she’s basically the President’s voice overseas.

The statement she made here,

“From our perspective, he has lost legitimacy, he has failed to deliver on the promises he’s made, he has sought and accepted aid from the Iranians as to how to repress his own people,” Clinton told reporters in an appearance with European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in Washington.

Syria has been a puppet regime for how many decades? They have been actively sponsoring terror for how many decades? In Iran’s fucking pocket for how many decades? How does this get past our government? A lot of people were really upset when she said this and with every right.

I understand diplomacy and you don’t want to intentionally piss people off, but that’s when you’re talking about our ALLIES. When some country in Europe, with whom we have GOOD relations does something horrifying, then you may treat them with kinder words or “handle” them. But not Syria. Never Syria or Iran or Hamas or any of them. We need to act like the World Superpower that we are.

They didn’t LOSE legitimacy. They never had it.

re: #1 marjoriemoon

In Washington, the people with the real power are those employed, not subject to election. In other words, those working at the State Department who have been there 30 years, and know they will be there regardless of election results have the power. This also applies to the President.

The idea that Syria can be swayed to join the Western Sphere has been the keystone to policy since James Baker days. Notice that the policy has remained even though Baker is long gone. And if the US abandons this strategy, then there is absolutely no strategy, and no other possibilities for a strategy.
