Murder inquiry after Birmingham pedestrians killed by driver
Scene Three pedestrians were run over in the incident
Police have begun a murder inquiry after three pedestrians were run over and killed by a driver in Birmingham.
The incident happened at about 01:15 BST on the Dudley Road in the Winson Green area.
Police have arrested a man and a vehicle has been recovered.
The casualties were taken to the nearby City Hospital where a large crowd has gathered. It is not yet known if the deaths are linked to overnight rioting in the area.
However, it is thought the men had just come out of a mosque and were protecting their neighbourhood at the time of the incident.
The Metropolitan Police’s Operation Trident began an investigation after a man was found in a car with bullet wounds to the head in Warrington Road at 21:15 BST on Monday.
Police said the 26-year-old man was involved in a car chase and shot following an altercation with a group of about nine men. Two men have been arrested and bailed over the death.
All this over a fatal shooting of a guy that shot back, right?
Mr Duggan, 29, whose death sparked the first riots in Tottenham, died from a single bullet wound, an inquest heard.
The police watchdog said ballistic tests showed “no evidence that the handgun found at the scene was fired”.
BBC News understands firearms officers discharged their weapons in the belief there was a threat to human life.
Their guidelines allow them to open fire in such circumstances.
Investigations by the IPCC show two shots were fired by a Scotland Yard CO19 firearms officer.
The initial results confirmed a bullet found lodged in a police officer’s radio was a “jacketed round” - a police issue bullet consistent with being fired from a force Heckler and Koch MP5.
Whoops. Guess more cops and security cameras will prevent this sort of thing from happening again!
