A family comes to KFOX14 for help after a 22-year-old El Paso woman was murdered over the weekend in Juarez.
The victim’s family complains that that they’re having a hard time bringing her body back to the U.S.
All of the information in this story is information that family members of 22-year-old Stephanie Marie Lozano told KFOX14.
Roger Lozano, Stephanie’s uncle, said she was in Juarez on Sunday visiting her boyfriend. The two of them were sitting outside of his house in a car, when a few men jumped out of a truck and shot them to death.
Stephanie’s 4-year-old daughter, Hailey Lozano, was in the back seat of the car when the shooting took place. Hailey was not shot, although she showed KFOX14 reporter Ric Dupont small burns on her knuckles that we’re told came from the gunpowder.
When Roger asked Hailey about her mom, she said “She’s in Heaven.”
Family members said they were told by the Juarez Police Department that they didn’t have the right documents to claim Stephanie’s body. They also said they were also told that they could not see the body to identify her.
Family members of the second victim, Stephanie’s boyfriend, said they witnessed the shooting.
The witnesses said police did not pursue the truck that had the alleged shooters in it even though it was still cruising around the neighborhood.
Stephanie’s family said that the Juarez Police Department told them it was not going to investigate the murder and the family should chalk it up to a tragic event.
KFOX14 left a message with the Juarez Police Department but so far they haven’t called back.
