NY man faces prison for liens against officials
In a series of cases a Wingnut sovereign citizens organization that has been characterized as “Paper terrorists” has been put away, but the last of the chain appears to have been just an idiot who got duped by their claims.
A man described by federal authorities as a member of the anti-government sovereign citizen movement has been sentenced to six months in jail and six months of home detention after acknowledging he was easily misled into believing municipal officials had no authority over him and then filing billions of dollars in financial liens against them.
U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy, noting 48-year-old Jeffrey Charles Burfeindt of Highland was more of a follower and had no criminal history, also ordered him to pay more than $8,000 in restitution.
