I knew there was a reason I didn't like Montana much.

Okay... I just went to Montana. I was in Bozeman. I saw what is there... I Couchsurfed. I don't doubt that this exists, because a number of rich folks will go in and buy up huge swaths of land (or have already done this years ago). Many native Montanans have grudges against people coming in from anywhere else (especially California) because of land/water rights and they have done. Many people have bought land with with mountain pass access and restrict this access because they own the land. Others will buy the land around a river/stream/water table and buy the minimum number of livestock they need to legally own a farm; in this way, they have exclusive water rights and can restrict water rights downstream. This continues because MONTANA IS BEAUTIFUL, ESPECIALLY WESTERN MONTANA. The Gallatin National Forest and Bitterroot Valley are amazing places and people want to own property here because they are drawn to the natural beauty. I only hope this is a temporary outlet to the people's ongoing frustrations.

But there are in fact a good number of decent people there. Sigh.

OT, but that's not at all how water rights work in the west, they had to purchase that water right from a prior user according to a prior use. out west, just because you own land appurtenant to water doesn't give you rights on it. that's how it works back east with riparian water rights.

One of my friends is thinking of moving back to Montana. There are great people there...but this is their local problem.

You know, I'm just sitting here staring at my hand, and wondering how excited a person can actually get about their skin color.

Interesting. I once knew a woman who planned to move herself and her daughters to Montana after her divorce was finalized. I found it odd given her strong affection for urban centers but all doubt was cast aside when she freely admitted that she's "pro-white" and intends on raising her kids as such.

I didn't keep in touch.

This is what I was told... I could have easily misunderstood... and I'm not about to read the Montana Water Rights Handbook, as thrilling as that may sound. =P

I'm not trying to misinform, but perhaps they were referring to pre-1973 laws when the appropriation of water rights in Montana didn't exist.

Eh, those water rights have existed since the 1800s under prior appropriation doctrine. All 1973 did was formalize a method of creating new rights or modifying old ones. Rights that existed prior to 1973 were still good and always were under the beneficial use doctrine. We have the exact same thing down here in NM. I'm thinking maybe the folks you talked to might have been misinformed.

BTW, the April Gaede mentioned in the article is the mother of "Prussian Blue", the neo-Nazi singers who were supposedly reformed by public school and pot.

Glad to see the article mention Chuck Baldwin, buddy of Ron Paul and the Palins.

I know Montana is big, but I don't think it's big enough to squeeze all of the white people in there. It will just get really crowded and then the white people will just start fighting and hating each other.

They already are. From the link:

Abarr has written fliers encouraging the deportation of homosexuals and Jewish Americans to create an ethnically pure "Realm of Montana."

Of course, Jews have never counted as white to them, and until now I did not realize that homosexuals were an ethnicity, but there you go. Once you turn on the hate faucet, you almost can't turn it off, and it starts spraying in every direction.

By the way, the Chuck Baldwin mentioned in the article,

So is the Rev. Chuck Baldwin, McAdam said. The Florida transplant to the Flathead has been a Constitution Party presidential candidate, an advocate of militia movements and involved with the Council of Conservative Citizens, which the Southern Poverty Law Center characterizes as a hate group.

...is the same Chuck Baldwin that former NM governor and current presidential candidate Gary Johnson cast his vote for in the 2008 presidential election.
