What is the value of a little girl?
I have been following for months now the controversy over the efforts to bring Child Beauty Pageants to Australia and New Zealand. There is an organized opposition, as well as an organized effort to bring in these pageants.
The pageant went on, and the Australian government sent a Commissioner to check it out.
As spelled out in the article, the inherent problem in these pageants is that they judge a little girl on her beauty at an age when she’s not really old enough to put it all into perspective and understand what a small fraction of her her physical appearance is. They choose winners and losers—personal winners and losers—at a very young age, and based on such a superficial quality.
Also, the girls look TERRIBLE dressed up like that. Give me overalls, braids, and a knee scraped from climbing a tree any day.
These pageants are a bad idea for children.
