Jon Huntsman: I’d be Michele Bachmann’s VP

Jon Huntsman told CNN interviewer Piers Morgan on Monday that if asked by the Minnesota congresswoman to run as her vice president he’d “be the first person to sign up, absolutely.”

But then he tried quickly to backtrack, saying the answer was based on a hypothetical question and that he has no doubt he’ll win the Republican nomination.

The lead balloon that is Huntsman’s campaign struggles to to attain new heights of inconsistency. How can a candidate who professes to support science and wants to represent the center of the GOP hitch his wagon - even hypothetically - to one of the new Know-nothings?

Weird. This guy's all over the place. He's making even less sense than Romney, if that's possible.

His spokesman also said Huntsman would repeal "Obamacare". So, Huntsman favors ending health care coverage for anyone who would have been covered under the new law? And what about the pre-existing conditions the ACA got rid of? Huntsman would re-instate that? Maybe our illustrius "liberal media" could ask such questions.

Man, he fell for that?
That's one of the classic gotcha questions that reporters ask candidates for president.
The correct answer is some variation on "I won't answer hypothetical questions about the vice presidency."

I think in this instance the correct answer was: "My policy positions are almost diametrically opposed to those of Ms Bachmann. It is unlikely we could partner successfully in the White House."

Except on most issues, apparently, they are not diametrically opposed.
