You are 100% correct on this one Buck and I can find, nor do I wish there to be any sort of defense for Biden’s comments.

I will think less of him and be more glad this his power as Vice President is extremely limited from this day forth. (Non sarcasm)

I think this is another overblown controversy. Just because Biden said he understood the policy does not mean he agrees with it.

That’s what they get for starting a basketbrawl against Georgetown.

Is there another quote where Biden says China somehow did the right and/or moral thing? Because the quote you provide (via The American Spectator) seems to show Biden pointing out the folly of such a policy.

Buck - I love Biden and his misstatements, but this one …

When I read it, I took him to mean “Your policy has been one which I fully understand TO BE — I’m not second-guessing — of one child per family.” (the part in bold I added and it’s what I assumed he was trying to say).

I took it as Biden describing the policy and he just didn’t finish his sentence like he should have which, honestly, he’s been known to do quite often.

I read all the “gotcha”s on this, and I still can’t see that Biden was trying to say that he understands the policy (implying agreement with it).

I agree their one-child policy is terrible for all the reasons you cited. But Biden wasn’t saying he agreed with the policy.

Any one of the people defending Biden willing to defend the religious leaders who were made out to support death penalties for homosexuals in Uganda?

I mean they never said they supported that penalty. Just because they said they “understood the policy does not mean (they) agrees with it.”

And even if they said they understood it… well we can just add a couple of words that they didn’t actually say in order to make it all right.

He brought it up, out of context, He said clearly that he understood it, and that he would not second guess it.

The only way he could have been more clear if he was the one telling a couple that they must have an abortion because they are over their limit.

AND I AM NOT SAYING HE MEANT IT!

I am being clear that he was just being a coward, and saying what the people he was with wanted to here.

Buck don’t compare abortion, EVEN FORCED ABORTION (Which is a horrible thing that I disagree with because it robs parents of a child they could have had) with the murder of a fully grown person.

As I said, this is NOT about abortion. And by the way Forced abortion is done to a fully grown person (the pregnant woman).

It is about basic human rights. The one child policy is inhumane to fully grown people.

The American religious leaders did not kill a fully grown person (homosexual or otherwise), in fact they would tell you that they are against any law that would have a death penalty for homosexuality….once they are outside of Uganda….

“Your policy has been one which I fully understand… of one child per family.”

It actually makes more sense to remove the words “I’m not second-guessing”, than to add words.

He was clearly trying straddle a fence.

re: #11 Buck

No. You’re being willfully blind here. He was telling China not to throw stones because they are living in a glass house.

China has been bugging the Obama Administration for several years about the deficit. Biden was saying that yes, we have a deficit, which we will deal with, but China shouldn’t be the one complaining because the one child policy is going to kick China’s ass economically within the next few decades. Biden was addressing economic issues without firing off a moral broadside. That’s what he meant when he said he wasn’t second guessing it. It happened, it has economic policy effects, and he was talking about those effects. That’s what diplomacy is about.

re: #11 Buck

Nope. You have no safety net. Your policy has been one which I fully understand of one child per family. The result being that you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people.

That’s clearly only a statement about the economic consequences of that policy, and not addressing the moral aspect.

Unless somehow understanding equals approval in your book, which it probably does when useful to your nontroversies.

Forced abortion can ruin the life of a family by denying the mother a chance to get to know the life growing inside her.

Death Penalty for gayness ENDS THE LIFE of a FULLY GROWN HUMAN BEING, besides going on to possibly ruin the life of his family because they’ve had someone they’ve known ripped away from them for pathetically arbitrary reason.

Both of them are evil but one is clearly more evil than the other.
