Is this a spam ad? Why is it a page?

If you don’t think that the German Federal government abetting Saudi Arabia in surveilling their populace, esp. during this time of Arab Spring, is important, then I can’t really help you.

Silly. This is like saying nobody should sell cameras to Saudi. There are plenty of non political uses for camera systems and they are available off the shelf without restriction anywhere.

Saudi Arabia is also not a Libya nor a Syria, or even Egypt, whatever one might think of a Muslim theocracy.

Not silly at all. This is not about “camera systems”. Read the job descriptions. That’s what I posted it for.

Whatever that’s supposed to mean. If you have no idea about Saudi Arabia’s involvement in crushing down the Arab Spring (cf. Bahrain), then just don’t talk about it.

Like I said, you advocate banning people and skills from Saudi because you think they can be used in ways you don’t approve of. That can apply to almost any product or service and is a naive and impossible attitude to take.

I have lived and worked in Saudi for years and have some idea of what the society is. It is not a Syria or Libya and the main tensions are religious, not political, between Shiites and Sunnis. The former are concentrated in Eastern Saudi and Bahrain and have strong underground ties to Iran. There are no doubt grievances, but to imagine they are all honorable “Arab Spring” issues is naive in the extreme.

FTFY

You are the one who is being naive if you think this government-approved deal won’t be used for surveillance of the populace.

You obviously don’t, because you make excuses for one insane, murderous theocracy (Saudi Arabia) while condemning the other (Iran). Your statements are absurd and hypocritical.

There are no doubt grievances, but to imagine they are all honorable “Arab Spring” issues is naive in the extreme.

I am not talking about “honorable” Arab Spring issues. I am talking about technology sold to Saudi Arabia which is pretty much guaranteed to be used to use mass surveillance on the populace and in the process massively violate human rights in a state that does not give much about them to begin with.

I am sure you would tell me that the 200 tanks the German government recently cleared for sale to Saudi Arabia is also going to used for purely uncontroversial means, right? Get real.

Saudi is a monarchy first and a theocracy second, but it is not insane nor “murderous”, whatever you think qualifies for that.

You seem to think Saudi and Iran are essentially the same. They are not and you are ignorant in this regard.
