Michelle Bachmann wants a cross on the White House lawn
Michele Bachmann wants to bring God to the White House - Literally.
During a campaign stop in South Carolina, Bachmann was asked about how big a role religion should play in Government.
She replied: “You know, you can’t have America without God. You just can’t. The Founders knew that, that’s why they built America around Christian principles. America just can’t be America without God at the center. Heck I might put up a giant cross on the White House lawn to make sure no one forgets that.”
The comment drew a loud round of applause and approval from the assembled crowd.
When another person pointed out that such an act would be clearly unconstitutional, Bachmann replied “Well if I became President, I would fix that.”
This drew another loud cheer of approval.
Asked about the comments later, a campaign rep for Bachmann said that her comments were “taken out of context”
When pressed on how this could possibly be, the rep dodged the question and simply said “Michele Bachmann respects the constitution, end of story.”
I really have no words for this one.
