Aren't there laws saying enlisting into a foreign army is illegal? Punishable by revoking your citizenship?
That's really weird that an asian-American(Korean?) math major would get involved in a bloody, north african civil war. Something doesn't seem right.

Yes and yes. Reminded me of a joke about the mental patient who instantly solves a pressing problem for someone on the other side of the fence. Punch line ... I may be crazy but I'm not stupid. This young man may be good at math but there seems to be room for improvement in critical thinking skills.
