“I’m a strict social conservative, a fiscal conservative, a very strict constitutionalist.”

One of those things is not like the others in the eyes of the GOP.

In order to assert social conservatism, people’s constitutional rights are trampled. Hamze simply has the misfortune of belonging to the wrong religion to dictate morals in order to accomplish the goal of social conservatism. All the same, it might make Republicans look in the mirror and see how far adrift they’ve gone, hating someone because they aren’t the same flavor of fundie as they.

OTOH, if Hamze is a student of the Constitution, and not a rabid fundamentalist, perhaps he make the GOP uncomfortable with their lack of understanding and respect for it. In which case, I hope he ruffles some feathers.

Hamze called the idea that he does not believe in the Constitution because he is Muslim “baseless garbage.”

I might kinda like him for that.

I can understand his reasons for identifying with the party.

But I always wonder what kind of a spineless moron keeps identifying after some of the shit recently pulled. I wonder this about gay Republicans, and Muslim Republicans especially. Dude, I get it: you’re a social conservative. So are they, unless your idea of old-fashioned modesty means your wife covers her hair, instead of perming it into a helmet. You’re a fiscal conservative. So are they, except they’ll spend all the money they need to to privilege their religion over yours. You’re a strict Constitutionalist. So are they—except they think the First Amendment might not really apply to your religion because it’s, like, more of a political movement, and really scary.

I don’t like the relentless Republican-bashing we’ve been going in for around here, but this is one area where I have to say: “Mr. Hamze, are you out of your mind?”

re: #3 SanFranciscoZionist

Mega-upding. No matter how many other views you share, it seems perverse to get in bed with people who systematically dehumanize you.

another “Strict Constitutionalist” who probably means he wants to strictly adhere to only the select parts of the Constitution he likes, just like it seems all the other “Strict Constitutionalist”.

Oh- and those pesky Amendments they don’t like will have to be done away with. Like all of them.

The problem is he’s not a CHRISTIAN social conservative.

I probably don’t agree with Mr. Hamze on much at all but the way the right is responding to him simply because he’s a Muslim is disgusting. I don’t know why he’s trying honest. You got a sizable amount of prominent elected Republicans who seem to believe that Muslim and American are two terms that are incompatible.

We cannot have Muslims dictating their religious laws instead of American law. It has to be Fundamentalist Christians who do that.
