Some of the good things about law school—you learn not to overlook the obvious questions.

That’s the thing—it won’t just apply to one religion, at least not for long.

No, it won’t.

There’s the Pope and Catholic law (and we went through all of that when JFK was running for President).

There’s Jewish law and custom (and what comes to my mind here is San Francisco’s recent attempt to ban circumcision, which didn’t happen, though I saw several here arguing for it).

No, it won’t end up being applied only to one religion. This is just wrong.

You two aren’t thinking that Oklahoma will add other religions to ban, are you?

I think the law is dead in the water, or the authors of the law will somehow try to describe Sharia in ways that sound general but really aren’t. This latter tactic won’t work either.

I can’t speak for reine, but it looks like she’s thinking the the same thing I am: Not that this specific law will add other religions, but that should it pass it would open the door to such. I really don’t see how it could pass since it would be unconstitutional, then again if there was another really bad terrorist attack by radical Islamists (God forbid), I’m not 100% certain that people, our elected officials, or even the courts would keep their heads.

That politicians are comfortable endorsing such bills in this day & age gives me pause, much as it did for you guys with the SF circumcision law that was being pushed.

Remember that there is a difference between lawyers who go into the legislative branch and those who stay in the judiciary. The ones who go to Congress are running for Student Council President. Those who stay in the judiciary are sitting in the back of class shooting spitballs at the little speech makers.

And this dynamic is a constant, terrorist attack or not.

Oh, come on! I can’t believe we’re having this discussion. Everyone knows that its those heathen religions that are the problem. D’uh! Whereas good old Christian terrorism and theocracy is God’s will.

Just in case: /sarc

First they came for the Muslims, but I was not a Muslim so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Catholics, but I was not a Catholic so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Democrats…

But if they come for Yankees fans, I’m OK with that.
