Wow, "Judenrein" the other day and now this.

Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

How much do you want to bet this whole "statehood" thing goes down in flames?

Shame on the nations of the world that continue to turn a blind eye to this basic truth.

Optimist that you are, eli... The majority of nations supporting the statehood bid are very well aware of this "basic truth". Hell, it is convergent with their own agendas for Israel.

Four legs good. Two legs bad.

Abdullah said that 'even Palestinian refugees who are living in [refugee camps] inside the [Palestinian] state, they are still refugees.

Completely absurd. No one is going to go for that.

re: #4 jaunte

Being a refugee has become a part of the Palestinian national psyche. It has been inculcated into several generations that no matter what happens, no matter what territory the Palestinians are given for a state, they will always be refugees until Israel is destroyed and the term "Palestine" applies to all of what is now Israel. Period. The end. If nothing else, this whole debate and furor surrounding the unilateral declaration of statehood has forced the Palestinian ruling class to acknowledge their true intentions.

Depends on what you mean by "statehood". If you mean that a state of Palestine will be accorded by the world community with all the trappings and benefits of statehood, without any of the attendant responsibilities, I would unfortunately have to take your bet.

If, on the other hand, you mean that the end result will be further bloodshed, tears and flames, that, unfortunately, would be a sucker bet and I would take a pass.

Imp, while that is certainly true for many of the nations supporting the statehood bid, and particulary most, if not all, of the nations in the Arab/Muslum bloc, I think it reasonable to ascribe the support by many other nations more to what they view as their self-interest, i.e., ensuring access to oil, avoiding being targeted by terrorists, etc. For many of the nations in Europe and elsewhere who will support the PA's gambit, it is less a desire to see Israel utlimately destroyed than simply the ages-old practice of offering up the Jews as the price of appeasement.

If it gets the "international community" to continue sending billions and assisting, either actively or passively, in the Arab effort to destroy the Jewish State, many, if not most, such "refugees" will have no objection whatsoever to contniuing to be called "refugees."

I have so many snarky things to say--so many historical and modern-day parallels--so much venting--but...

Meh. Did we expect better? Every other Arab nation has screwed the Palestinians. Why should Palestine be an improvement?

How many years have we been arguing on these pages that the essence of a PA state would be Nuremberg laws? And we came to these conclusions from watching and listening to decades of statements and actions by the PA.

That small part of me that still holds out hope for a resolution in my lifetime needs to hold on to that exceedingly minute possibility. Without it, even hope dies on the vine.

One and the same, to me.
