Hurricane warning issued for Newfoundland coast
hurricane warning was in effect early Friday for the coast of Newfoundland in Canada as Hurricane Maria raced northeastward in the Atlantic.
The warning covers the area from Arnolds Cove to Brigus South. Also, a tropical storm warning was in effect early Friday for Newfoundland from Stones Cove to Arnolds Cove and from Brigus South to Charlottetown.
Maria’s maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph. But some weakening was expected by Friday night.
Let’s hope it’s not as bad as the 1775 Newfoundland hurricane, still Canada’s greatest natural disaster.
