Stion Solar opens, ready to roll out product
Stion Solar CEO Chet Farris said the first film module is expected to come off the line by Sept. 30, just nine months after the company announced plans to locate in Hattiesburg.
Farris made the announcement at Friday’s ribbon-cutting and grand opening event.
The California-based company produces high-efficiency thin-film solar modules. Its production facility is now located in the Hattiesburg-Forrest County Industrial Park.
The first phase of the project is a 100-megawatt line that’s already up and running and entails more than a $100 million investment.
Gov. Haley Barbour said there will be four production lines and the company has sold 2 1/2 years worth of production.
Completion of a second line has been moved up to accommodate sales.
